What is required to vote?
Your name must be in the precinct book where you are attempting to vote.

How do I get my name in the precinct book?
You must fill out a voter registration application.

What is required to fill out a voter registration application?
You must have a valid Cherokee Tribal Membership and be eighteen (18) years old.

Can relatives help fill out application for voter registration for family members?
Yes, If the voter makes his or her mark (signs with an X) two witnesses who know him or her must witness the mark and sign the application for voter registration to vote at the bottom of the application. The application cannot be accepted with a mark if it is not witnessed by two witnesses.

Is a voter photo ID required to vote?
No, a voter photo ID is not required to vote.

What is a Blue Card?
The Blue Card is a Cherokee Nation Membership Card.

What is the White Card?
The White Card is a Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood or a CDIB card.

What is the status of the Election Law?
The Election Law was approved on May 12, 1997.

What about absentees?
Absentee ballots must be requested for new elections. If you request an absentee for a primary, you will automatically get an absentee for the runoff. At the next election you must request an absentee again.

When can I request an absentee for the 2003 election?
February 3,2003 until April 11, 2003
** Absentee ballot request forms can be obtained by calling the Election Services Office, or done in writing, containing the following information:
1. Name
2. Date of Birth
3. Address
4. Cherokee Nation membership registration number; and
5. Signature

Do I need to re-register before every election?
No, If you have voted in at least one of the last two previous Cherokee Nation Elections, then you do not need to re-register to vote.

Do I need to fill out a voter registration application to update my address?
Yes, any corrections to addresses or changes in precincts and districts must be done by filling out a new application.
