Sequoyah High School Dormitory enrollment has increased 40% over last year

Thanks to dedicated SHS administrative directors, staff, teachers and parents, Sequoyah High School's progress since 1999 has been remarkable.

ACADEMICS:

Curriculum aligned to the Oklahoma PASS, ITAP (Iowa Test of Achievementand Proficiency) and the ACT objectives

Tremendous Increases in ACT scores of students taking the ACT recommendedcore classes:

SHS pays for the ACT testing fees of Junior's and Senior's

SHS provided ACT test preparation workshops presented by Chad Cargill

PLATO software system for students to make up course credits

Media production studio with state of the art audio visual, filming andediting capabilities which produces a weekly news show

Students participate in the Oklahoma Close-Up Program (1 week at the statecapital)

Students participate in the National Close-Up Program (1 week at thenation's capital)

Exceptional Education department has full inclusion

After school tutoring in dormitories.

Junior's and Seniors can concurrently enroll at Northeastern State University. SHS will pay forthe tuition, books, and supplies.

Football district champs first time in 49 years 2002-2003

SHS hosted first ever home playoff game 2002-2003

Girls basketball state tournament appearances for the past 3 consecutiveyears

Boys basketball state tournament appearance 2001-2002

Boys basketball currently ranked #2 in the state 2002-2003

All-State players in basketball, baseball, slow-pitch softball, fast pitchsoftball, track, cross country, and golf

First fast-pitch district champs 2002

CONSTRUCTION:

New air conditioning and floor for the gymnasium in the fall of 2002

Academic building renovations in 1998-99

New dance studio/wrestling room for student activities

New Fitness Center to include showers and dressing rooms – purchased$100,000 fitness equipment.

Each dormitory room has internet access with computers (completion dateSpring 2003)

RESIDENTIAL:
Token Economy - Students with good grades, good behavior, and group sessionparticipation can earn incentives every 3 weeks.

Incentives are

 

Level 1:

$10 cash

Level 2:

$20 cash

Level 3:

$40 worth of clothing

For 18 consecutive weeks of good behavior, good grades, and group participation: Students can earn a trip to Worlds of Fun or similar park.

All of the students participate in different groups set up by theirResidential Therapists.Some of the groups are: Anger Management, Chemical Dependency, Grief/Loss,General Support,Female Issues, Male Issues, Tutoring, Medication Management. The residential program has purchased the following items for after schoolentertainment, health fitness, and recreational activities on campus:

3 football tables

30 bicycles

3 treadmills

1 stairmaster

athletic equipment

5 pool tables

3 big screen televisions

3 DVD/VCR players

100 CD jukebox (student selected CD’s)

bubble hockey

electronic dartboard

2 playstation II’s with 10 games
