National Leadership Issues

Cherokee Nation Council Candidates 2003

In Your Hands...

In your hands, fellow Cherokee citizens, rests the success or failure of our great Cherokee Nation to continue to successfully meet challenges to our sovereignty, the health and well being of our people, our heritage, traditions and language, education for our youth and self-sufficiency.

This election is a celebration of freedom and sovereighty, as well as a beginning-signifying renewal, as well as change.

We are the heirs of a great legacy left to us by our Cherokee ancestors. The torch has been passed from generation to generation of Cherokees, tempered and disciplined by adversity, hard and bitter peace and a proud heritage-unwiling to yield or permit the undoing of our sovereignty, rights and cultural values.

Our best efforts to continue to meet challenges ahead depend on dedicated, qualified leadership. United there is little we cannot do. We shall not always expect to find total agreement on issues. But we shall always hope to find all strongly supporting the Cherokee Nation and Cherokee citizens-and those who remember lessons learned from our past. These lessons help guide us and keep us on the right path today and in the future.

Therefore, I know you will agree that it is important we wisely elect our Cherokee representatives who are capable of converting good words into good deeds in a new alliance for progress.

Let us ask of ourselves the same high standards of strength and sacrifice which we ask of those we elect to represent us.

Let us begin anew-remembering that Native diplomancy and civility is not a sign of weakness, and sincerity is always subject to proof. Let all focus on problems and issues that unite us instead of those things which divide us.

Please review and consider these Cherokee Nation Council candidates asking for your support, prayers and vote on May 24, 2003.

Wado!
